Frustrating and fulfilling three hours of work

I actually was eyeing the marble run first, but since I haven’t done any from this brand before, I figure I should start with something simpler.
This is a very well thought out 3D puzzle, and the finished product looks exquisite. My problem is really with how hard it is to get some of the pieces in place. I mean I have very little grip strength, so the later steps where you have to wiggle and force a piece in place was very difficult. And the wooden pieces aren’t strong enough to withstand some hammering. Luckily, with the help of my 8 yr old toy hammer and my trusty tweezer, I manage to softly bang some of the edge in without damaging the wood too much.
The instruction isn’t exactly crystal clear, took me a page or two in before realizing pieces with + sign next to them are extra pieces. And I was kind of hoping my lego/puzzle savvy 8 yr old could have enjoyed this project with me. Nope, he might be able to follow the instructions, but to build this thing, a child needs to be pretty advanced in manual dexterity.

        Fun project

I got this for Christmas. It’s a fun piece of puzzle to put together. May not be fun for all kids because some parts are delicate. Some parts broke coming off the stencils. Thankfully they knew which parts they needed to provide extras of. You have to be careful with the knob dial. Once you put it together do not pull it. It will result in one of the parts coming off and you’d have to take it apart to fix it. Must follow the instructions step by step especially the part about setting your code for the lock. I had to take it apart a few times because some parts fell off inside because they weren’t completely lodged together or my little one pulled the knob… The edges where the piece lock together can break or chip as you see in my photo. So sad… I would still buy their other products though. I love puzzles and this was a fun one.

        Very fun to put together!

It's wooden and unique!! My adult nephew was needing something to busy himself with at the hospital. I sent this and he loves it!! I was going to send paints but he loves it like it is!! Great gift!!

        Hours of fun

This one was my first ThinkPuzzles 3D wood puzzle making. It took me 8 hours to complete, and it was absolutely fun. I don't know if I read the instruction wrong, but the lock code that I selected wouldn't latch; it was way off... So I reluctantly accepted what would open to be my code. Other than that, the precision of measurement and laser cut were amazing (smallest part was the size of a match stick). For some parts I needed to file every joints very slightly, so that the edges won't break, but most parts were exact fit. I intended to give it to my friend's teenage son, but ended up keeping it for my own enjoyment. He wouldn't have patience, was my excuse. Also I wished they included a bit larger block of wax.

        Great product

I love puzzles and while searching amazon for them I came across this. It is not a puzzle box contrary to their listing and description but it was super fun to put together anyway and has found a place on my work desk with my other puzzles. The directions in the beginning while assembling the decoder tool are very lacking. I wound up trying to put the box together using the example code given but needs with something else. Easy to determine the combo when assembling you just look at the back and turn the dial till the kitchen line up. Other than that little hiccup I enjoyed the process very much. You will need a way to cut the wooden dowel pins that come with it and be super careful with the pieces that bend. I slipped on the ThinkPuzzles part and broke it. Little bit of superglue fixed it back good as new but I have heard that if you call then they will replace any broken pieces for you.

Looks exactly like picture. Difficult to build. I recommend because of the locking mechanism. If you don’t exactly put the right combination in the whole thing stops working and you have to disassemble it to fix it. Worth it.

        Great quality. Highly recommend.

Very thorough instructions and nicely done edges. They have a bunch of extra pieces for the tricky ones in case you accidently mess up. I didn't realize that they provided a handy ruler until I'm very late in the game. Wish they gave two pieces of San paper.
The hole on piece E17 has too much clearance so I had to stick it on with a glue gun. But no big deal.
The decoder steps (1-3) can be skipped if you use the chart in the back of the instruction booklet.
2 2-hour sessions should be enough. Definitely a test for patience if you try to do it all at once. Lol.
